As early as 1995, the founders of SMS Maschinenbau GmbH recognised the far-reaching trend of control technology for machine tools. The company was one of the first to equip existing (mechanical) thread grinding machines with cutting-edge CNC technology at attractive prices. The basic machines – principally those manufactured by Reishauer and Klingelnberg – were reconditioned and modernised (CNC retrofit).
